Hurting your foot or spraining your ankle is one of the most common sports injuries. A sprain is never fun! This injury can be prevented with a proper training program. Coming off of an injury you also want to rehab the injured site to full strength. This program will allow you to prevent and treat ankle injuries.

You may have a sprain if you notice the following symptoms at the injury site:

- Swelling

- Tenderness

- Bruising

- Pain

- Inability to put weight on the affected foot

- Skin discoloration

- Stiffness

This injury can occur when you roll, twist or turn your ankle in an awkward way. This can stretch or tear the tough bands of tissue (ligaments) that help hold your bones together.

Ligaments help stabilize joints, preventing excessive movement. This injury occurs when the ligaments are forced beyond their normal range of motion -- usually occurring on the outer side of the joint and bone.
